The Dell and HP laptop and tablet PCs that have an Nvidia graphics chip that overheats and burns them out...

April 20, 2009. - Many models of laptop/notebook and tablet computers sold mainly by Dell and HP have a faulty Nvidia graphics chip that overheats and burns them out. The policy of both companies appears to be not to contact the owners or recall all of the defective machines, but only to repair them when the customer makes a complaint.
Note that it can take many months before complete failure occurs. In fact, failure usually occurs after the 12-month-statutory warranty has expired. Moreover, if your laptop PC fails because of the overheating graphics chip, you may see intermittent symptoms during early stages of failure that include: multiple images, random characters on the screen, lines on the screen and no video.
The following pages provide information on the affected computers. You should check to find out if you own one of the affected models, because the only remedy that both companies have supplied so far is a BIOS update that increases the speed of the computer's cooling system in order to provide additional cooling to the overheating chip.

VIRUS,ADWARE& SPYWARE REMOVAL

The Internet today is proliferated with thousands of websites that infect your machine with viruses, ad software (Ad-ware) and tracking/spying software (Spy-ware). These sites are usually entertaining or "FUN" sites that are "FREE". They bait you to their websites and then install software onto your computer behind your back. If you can't figure out how a website makes money, then you have to suspect that website as being a bad website

Soon, you'll notice many pop-ups showing you ads for products you don't want. Sometimes once you get one of these ad-ware programs on your computer, it downloads additional programs onto your PC and you keep getting more & more ads. Eventually your computer slows to a crawl and the Internet may stop working altogether.

Question
Hi Mark, Hope you can help.  The computer is an HP Omnibook
XE2 and the OS has a password on it.  I have no idea what
the password is (my brother passed the laptop to me and he
doesn't know either).  The OS is either 98 or NT and I have
no idea how to get into the system.  ESC doesn't work to get
by the password screen.  Any ideas on what I should try?

a computer,do you know it

A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a list of instructions. The first devices that resemble modern computers date to the mid-20th century (around 1940 - 1945), although the computer concept and various machines similar to computers existed earlier. Early electronic computers were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers.[1] Modern computers are based on tiny integrated circuits and are millions to billions of times more capable while occupying a fraction of the space.[2] Today, simple computers may be made small enough to fit into a wristwatch and be powered from a watch battery. Personal computers, in various forms, are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "a computer"; however, the most common form of computer in use today is the embedded computer. Embedded computers are small, simple devices that are used to control other devices — for example; they may be found in machines ranging from fighter aircraft to industrial robots, digital cameras, and children's toys. The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile and distinguishes them from calculators. The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore, computers with capability and complexity ranging from that of a personal digital assistant to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks given enough time and storage capacity.
